Who is piloting the sailboat of your life?
Sailboats can progress against the wind with tacking, They change direction, crossing back and forth against the wind. This way they use the power of the wind to advance. Sailboats tacking offer us a great metaphor to grow our wisdom.
Bonnie learned to sail on a heritage 48’ gaff rig cutter in Victoria BC. This was a beautiful, heavy, stable and stately boat. She learned to sail on the Pacific ocean. I learned to sail on 15’ olympic class boats. They were light, fast and unstable. I learned to sail on a big lake.
When we started to sail together, we chose boats in the 30’ range. Our sailing skills are complimentary. Bonnie can dock a boat with great precision, without a motor. I can’t. But I can do the “man-overboard” (person-overboard?) maneuver perfectly and stop the boat in seconds.
