Here are two questions that changed my life when I was thinking about work. Like most people, I was selling my time and part of my mindspace to my employers . But two questions kept nagging me. Ask these two questions to yourself.
- Are you getting the best value for your time at your job?
- Are you getting the best value for the mindspace you dedicate to your job?
When I was a kid, I noticed two neighbors. Mr R had a job, and he regarded the time he wasn’t at his job as “free” time. He dedicated his free time to making sure his lawn was perfect and he kept his car spotless. Another neighbor, Mr C, was a business owner, and he owned the biggest house on the street, had a gardening service and used a car wash. He didn’t necessarily work more hours than Mr R, but he valued his time more. His “free” time could be dedicated to higher value activities than cutting the grass or washing his car.
What is the value of your time?
Most people let their employer or the market decide what is the value of their time. How about your time? Is it worth minimum wages or several hundred dollars an hour? The truth is that it’s your choice. You can grow your income. You simply need to change your work strategy.
